vermicomposting intro practice video

This video is me just rushing to get a video online to show some vermicomposting and close up of red-worms. I will make a video showing everything I am doing and eventually compile a step by step guide of how I am doing it and what it takes along with facts and tips for getting free materials. One thing I am having problems with, is Fungus Gnats. I am now using “mosquito dunks” which is B.T. which is a bacteria that the larva eat and die, but doesn’t effect the compost worms. If you know anything else I can use, let me know (Dichotomous earth didn’t work because of the humidity required, fly paper just lowers the numbers, remove the flypaper and the numbers come back)

Fungus Gnats in worm compost

The easiest way I just found, is to just let the worms eat all the food, then the fungus gnats have no food and can not breed.

The cure for fungus gnats is simple. Have a bin that is deep enough that you can have a 2″ layer or more of bedding material at the top that they can not use as a food source.
