wat is the point of having a compost pile and also having compost worms?why not have only 1 or the other?

The worms will help break down the compost material much faster…because a compost pile us just a pile of rotting vegetation depending on what you throw on/in it…

Can you put milk in a compost pile?

My kids always leave uneaten cereal (oatmeal and grits) with a little bit of milk after breakfast. Is it okay to just throw this on the compost pile? I've heard that you shouldn't put milk on it but have never received an explanation as to why.

Scatter it in small bits to dry on top for a day, then mix it in well.
Any time you add something that could become stinky, it's a good idea to dry it out a little first, then cover it very well so it doesn't attract flies.
Milk and grains are very good in compost. Milk adds calcium to your compost, which can act to reduce acidity if the compost is used before it's truly ready.

Also, be sure to add your:
Eggshells, crushed
Coffee grounds
Paper towels
Citrus Scraps
ALL Veggie Scraps (uncooked)

Some people add bones, including chicken bones, as well as meat. Haven't done that yet. I will try to dry them first, then add them and hope my neighbors will not protest.

How do I build my own compost bin or container for only a few $?

How do I build and start an inexpensive compost bin or container for my home?

We used 2 x 4’s and cut them and made a box then put chicken wire around it with a staple gun it lets air get to the compost and you can turn it regularly the wood was at Home Depot you need to figure what size? we did a3 foot square box so we cut the 6 foot boards in half you would need 4 $5 for them and a small roll of chicken wire is about $8.00 thats about as cheap as you will get unless you find another way but a trash can doesn’t work very well because you can’t turn the compost very easily.
